Multi-location (regional) delivery
Coordinated delivery across multiple organisations
The majority of CRDCs can deliver studies using multi-location (hub-and-spoke or regional) models, where multiple organisations work together to deliver a single study.
This allows studies to be delivered at scale across large geographical areas, different settings and populations.
How the model works
- A central or “hub” organisation provides coordination, oversight and specialist expertise
- Locations or “Spoke” sites deliver study activity, which could be across primary, secondary, specialist or community care
- One organisation holds the Clinical Trial Agreement (CTA) and coordinates delivery
Different locations may deliver different study components, depending on study requirements.
Why this model is used
This approach supports:
- Recruitment at scale and/or pace
- Consistent delivery across multiple locations
- Access to broader and more diverse patient populations
- Integration of research into routine care
- Accessibility of research to more communities
Support from the Network
The CRDC UK Network supports sponsors to:
- Identify when a multi-location model is appropriate
- Navigate delivery across organisations
- Coordinate engagement and implementation
We provide practical support and coordination throughout, helping sponsors work through this model with confidence.
